To gain admission into Medicine & Surgery, the JAMB Cut Off Mark for Medicine & Surgery 2026 must fall between 250 and 320, and federal institutions set their thresholds at the topmost part of that range. Medicine & Surgery is a six year course that prepares students to identify diseases, prescribe medications, carry out surgical procedures, and oversee patient care in hospital settings.

The programme includes anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics, and community health throughout the duration of study.

Medical graduates find employment as doctors in government hospitals, private facilities, specialist clinics, research centres, and public health organisations. Listed below are all federal, state, and private universities that offer Medicine & Surgery, along with their cut off marks.

Other Admission Requirements for Medicine & Surgery

Your JAMB score alone will not secure admission into Medicine. You must also meet O Level and UTME subject requirements.

O Level Subjects Needed

You need at least five credits in the following subjects:

  • English Language (compulsory)
  • Mathematics (compulsory)
  • Biology (compulsory)
  • Chemistry (compulsory)
  • Physics (compulsory)

These five credits are non negotiable. Without any of them, your application will be rejected. The credits must be obtained in no more than two sittings. WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB results are accepted.

UTME Subject Combination

For JAMB, you must register with the following four subjects:

  • English Language
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics

Do not substitute Mathematics for Biology. Do not substitute Geography for Physics. The combination is fixed. Choosing the wrong subjects will disqualify you even if you score 300.

What You Should Understand Before Applying for Medicine

Before checking any cut off marks, know these five things:

  • Medicine takes six years of classroom and clinical training, plus an additional year of housemanship. Graduation will not happen quickly.
  • The cut off mark published online is usually the general university minimum. The departmental cut off for Medicine always sits higher than that number.
  • Meeting the required cut off mark does not guarantee admission. It only allows you to move to the next stage of competition.
  • Some universities with lower cut off marks may have accreditation problems. Always verify before submitting your application.
  • Private universities offer easier admission but charge significantly higher tuition than federal universities.
