Fraudulent online portals impersonating the National Examinations Council have been uncovered soliciting payments from teachers seeking to serve as examination supervisors; the Council has warned.
NECO, in a statement issued by its Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, confirmed that the fake platforms had been requesting academic credentials from applicants after demanding financial payments, a practice the Council described as entirely unauthorised.
"NECO wishes to inform the public that the Council does not request any payment from teachers applying to serve as examination supervisors in the forthcoming 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal," the statement read.
The Council disclosed that its supervisor recruitment process has been fully digitised, replacing the previous manual system. Sani noted that the transition followed recommendations of the Ministerial Committee on the Improvement of Quality of Examination in Nigeria, which sought to strengthen examination supervision and reduce malpractice.
Under the new arrangement, all eligible pensionable teachers on Grade Level 12 and above, aged 30 years and above, are required to apply exclusively through NECO's official portal. The recruitment system is fully automated and does not involve any third party agents.
"This new recruitment system will prevent fraud in the recruitment of supervisors, curb examination malpractice, and enhance fairness and credibility in the recruitment process," Sani stated.
NECO confirmed that 22,000 supervisors will be engaged across the country to support the conduct of the 2026 NECO SSCE Internal Examination, which is scheduled to commence on 15 June 2026. The Council urged members of the public to disregard any platform outside its official portal that requests money or personal information from prospective supervisors.
Teachers interested in serving as supervisors are advised to visit the NECO website directly and to report any suspicious recruitment platforms to the appropriate authorities.
