Candidates and educational institutions across West Africa can now access, share, and verify their certificates digitally following the full launch of the West African Examinations Council's digital certificate platform across all five member countries.

The Council officially activated WAEC DigiCert in Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, marking a significant shift in how examination certificates are processed and delivered in the region.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Headquarters in Accra, Ghana, Demianus Ojijeogu, on behalf of the Registrar.

WAEC described the platform as "a mobile and web based application that provides enormous benefits to the various stakeholders," adding that it offers "simple features that enable users to access, request, confirm, or share digital forms of the original certificates."

The Council confirmed that candidates can also recover lost WAEC examination numbers through the system, addressing a long standing challenge for many certificate holders.

Assuring the public of the platform's integrity, WAEC stated that "the system is reliable, the authenticity of the certificates is guaranteed, and the cost benefits to users cannot be overstated."

The full rollout follows a successful trial period, with the Council disclosing that following its successful pilot in Nigeria, WAEC DigiCert "received positive feedback from candidates and educational institutions worldwide."

The Council encouraged widespread adoption, urging stakeholders "to use WAEC DigiCert to avoid administrative challenges and bottlenecks associated with manual certificate issuance and collection."

For those concerned about the fate of physical certificates, WAEC provided reassurance, clarifying that "the usual printing and issuance of certificates will not be affected by this innovation."

Candidates can download the mobile application from the App Store for iOS devices or the Play Store for Android devices. Further information is available at www.waec.org or through the council's official social media accounts at @WAECDigicert.

The launch of DigiCert arrives alongside WAEC's release of the 2025 Second Series Computer Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination results for private candidates.
