The West African Examinations Council, Nigeria, has opened registration for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates, Second Series, giving eligible candidates until July 31, 2026, to secure a slot.
Registration commenced on May 4, 2026, and will run for nearly three months before the window closes. The council announced the development on its official X handle on Friday, confirming that the examination will be conducted entirely in a computer based format.
The registration fee is fixed at ₦37,000, and candidates are directed to visit the nearest WAEC office in their state to confirm available examination towns before completing their registration process.
WAEC urged prospective candidates to register early rather than wait until the deadline, noting the importance of taking full advantage of the computer based format ahead of the examination date.
The WASSCE for Private Candidates, Second Series, is a special annual examination designed for individuals who are not enrolled in regular secondary schools. It provides an independent pathway for such candidates to sit the examination and obtain the West African Senior School Certificate.
For candidates who missed the regular school sitting or who previously did not obtain the required results, the examination represents a formal route to certification without returning to a secondary school.
