Students from disadvantaged backgrounds in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area have received a financial lifeline as the council distributed 500 free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board forms to support their tertiary education aspirations.
The presentation took place yesterday at the council secretariat, culminating a thorough screening process aimed at identifying students who genuinely needed assistance and met academic standards.
Mayor Ameen Olawale Ibrahim, who leads the council as Executive Chairman, used the occasion to outline his administration's vision for youth development through education.
He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to educational development and youth empowerment, explaining that the initiative was designed to ease the financial burden on parents while creating opportunities for academically promising students to pursue tertiary education.
According to the chairman, education remains a vital instrument for community growth, social mobility, and economic transformation. He stressed that his government would continue to invest in programmes that uplift young people within Ikorodu North.
The selection process prioritised transparency, with the council implementing a comprehensive screening exercise to ensure only qualified and genuinely underprivileged candidates benefited from the programme.
Education stakeholders, community leaders, parents, and supporters gathered at the secretariat to witness the distribution, expressing appreciation for what they characterised as a meaningful intervention at a critical time.
Community members present at the event described the gesture as timely and impactful, especially with the 26th February 2026 registration deadline approaching rapidly. They encouraged beneficiaries to honour the investment by preparing diligently and performing excellently in their examinations.
The 500 forms represent substantial support for families struggling with examination costs in the area, demonstrating how local government can directly impact educational access at the grassroots level.
Residents urged the students to become worthy ambassadors of Ikorodu North LCDA by making the most of the opportunity provided through the free registration.
The initiative aligns with growing efforts across Lagos State and Nigeria generally, where government bodies and private individuals have stepped forward to sponsor JAMB registrations for economically disadvantaged students during the current examination cycle.
The distribution underscores the council's dedication to human capital development, providing hundreds of young people with chances they might not have accessed otherwise due to financial limitations.
As the registration window enters its final days, the Ikorodu North intervention offers timely relief to families who would have faced difficult choices about funding their children's examination registration.
