Eight JAMB examination slips and an exercise book listing student names and examination numbers were recovered from a man arrested for allegedly impersonating an official of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board in Anambra State.

The Anambra State Police Command confirmed that Eric Nwombu, the suspect, could not provide a satisfactory account for the materials found in his possession when operatives of the Inspector General of Police Safe School Initiative apprehended him on 14 April 2026.

Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Command, disclosed in a statement that Nwombu had been collecting 2026 UTME examination slips from students who visited a cyber cafe in Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area, to check their examination centres.

"The arrest followed a report of how the suspect was collecting 2026 JAMB examination slips from students who had come to check their examination centres in a cyber cafe in Atani," Ikenga stated.

Staff at the computer centre grew suspicious of Nwombu's conduct and were unsatisfied with his claim to be a JAMB 2026 coordinator in Atani. Their decision to alert nearby police operatives led directly to his arrest.

Ikenga revealed that upon noticing the approaching operatives, Nwombu attempted to escape but was swiftly apprehended. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for thorough investigation.

Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu reaffirmed the Command's dedication to preserving the integrity of public examinations, calling on Nigerians to stay alert and report suspicious behaviour to the nearest police authority.

The development reflects broader concerns about examination related misconduct as the 2026 UTME progresses across the country, with security agencies maintaining an active presence at examination centres nationwide.
