The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released results for 1,897,692 candidates who sat the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), following the conclusion of the examination on Saturday, April 25.
JAMB disclosed in its official bulletin that the 1,897,692 results released represent a portion of the 2,243,761 candidates who registered for the 2026 UTME. The board noted that additional results will be released in batches as they become available.
Candidates seeking to access their scores have been directed to do so via SMS. JAMB stated: "To check their results, candidates should send UTMERESULT via SMS to 55019 or 66019, using the same phone number (SIM) used during registration."
These and more easy steps have been explained in this detailed guide: Two Ways to Check your JAMB Results.
The board, however, clarified that result slips are not yet available for printing, adding that candidates can only view their scores at this time.
The 2026 UTME, which commenced on Thursday, April 16, was conducted at accredited Computer Based Test (CBT) centres in Lagos State, Abuja, and other locations nationwide. The examination ran in multiple sessions daily before concluding on April 25. The 2,243,761 registrations recorded for the 2026 edition represent an increase compared to the previous year.
Reacting to the conduct of the examination, Adesegun Ogungbayi, board chairman of MIMS Educational Resources Limited, described the 2026 UTME as a marked improvement on previous editions. Ogungbayi attributed the upgrade to background trials carried out by Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who led the JAMB administration.
"Prof is revealing to us that they have actually done some underground trials that have made the improvements we have witnessed possible," the Lagos based educator stated.
Ogungbayi further commended the speed of result releases, noting that the turnaround reflects a positive shift in the board's responsiveness to stakeholder feedback.
"The results are released seamlessly, which is commendable. We are particularly happy that JAMB is responsive to our feedback. For example, they release results faster than usual. That's within 24 hours after the exam. That is not a bad standard," he added.
The UTME remains Nigeria's centralised university entrance examination, conducted annually to determine admission into tertiary institutions across the country.
