The discipline offers a deep, structured examination of human societies, covering social theory, cultural practices, human relationships, population studies, crime, social problems, and the research methods used to understand how people live, organise communities, and respond to change across different environments and cultures.
Students graduate with strong capabilities in critical thinking, communication, and field research that carry real value across a wide range of professional settings.
Career opportunities for graduates are both broad and meaningful, spanning NGOs, government ministries, international organisations, media firms, social welfare agencies, human resource departments, research institutes, and community development organisations, with roles including policy analyst, social worker, development officer, researcher, and consultant.

Requirements That Get Students Rejected
Your JAMB score is important, but it will not save you if you ignore the rules below.
O Level Requirements
You need at least five credits in English Language, Mathematics (most universities require it), Government or History, and any two other arts or social science subjects like Economics, CRS, IRS, Literature, or Geography.
These credits must come from no more than two exam sittings. WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB results are accepted.
UTME Subject Combination
This is where mistakes happen. You must register for English Language, Government or History, and any two other arts or social science subjects. Do not register for Biology, Chemistry, or Physics unless you are also applying for a science course. That combination will get your application rejected immediately.
