Introduction to the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences

The Faculty of Social and Management Sciences brings together two major academic streams that frequently overlap within Nigerian universities. Understanding the distinction between these streams helps candidates make informed career choices that align with their interests and aspirations.

Social Sciences focus on the scientific study of human society, social relationships, and the structures that shape human behaviour. Disciplines under this stream include Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Geography, and International Relations. Graduates typically work in research institutions, policy analysis units, diplomatic missions, and social development organisations.

Management Sciences concentrates on the principles and practices of organising resources, leading people, and achieving organisational goals.

Disciplines under this stream include Accounting, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Marketing, and Insurance. Graduates typically work in corporate management, financial services, entrepreneurship ventures, and organisational leadership positions.

Many universities house these disciplines within a single faculty, while others separate them into distinct faculties. The JAMB brochure accounts for both arrangements, and candidates must verify the specific faculty structure at their chosen institution before proceeding with registration.
