The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commissioned a N1 billion Mega Professional Registration Centre (PRC) in Maiduguri, Borno State, built to improve access to tertiary education across the North East.

Outgoing Registrar of the Board, Professor Is haq Oloyede, inaugurated the facility alongside incoming Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, describing the centre as a major investment in the region's education sector.

The ultra modern facility, donated by the Borno State Government, sits on a 5,300 square metre expanse of fenced and landscaped land, and is powered by a newly installed 300kVA transformer.

Its main office complex comprises eight offices, three conference rooms, four registration areas and 16 convenience facilities, alongside two Computer Based Test (CBT) halls equipped with 275 computers each, giving the centre capacity for 500 candidates per examination session and up to 2,000 candidates daily during examinations.

The centre also features two waiting areas with a combined capacity of 500 candidates, as well as six additional convenience facilities intended to enhance candidates' comfort while awaiting their examination sessions.

Construction began on 24th February 2026, when Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, laid the foundation for the project, and was completed in under six months, ahead of the timeline the Governor had earlier set.

Oloyede thanked Governor Zulum for what he termed a monumental investment in education, noting that the facility would significantly ease the challenges candidates across the North East face in seeking admission into tertiary institutions. He commended the Governor's continued support for JAMB and the education sector.

The JAMB delegation also toured some of the smart schools established by the Borno State Government during the visit, with Oloyede noting the administration's determination to make education central to its development agenda.

Aina, the incoming Registrar, praised the partnership between the State Government and JAMB, urging that the collaboration be sustained to further strengthen the Board's operations and advance educational development in the state.

Governor Zulum, responding, reaffirmed his administration's commitment to prioritising education as a tool for addressing the state's social and economic challenges, disclosing that the State Government invested more than N1 billion in the project. He stated that the long term benefits of the centre far outweigh its cost, and described it as reflecting his administration's resolve to provide world class educational infrastructure for candidates in Borno State and the wider North East.
