Physics examines the laws that govern motion, energy, electricity, gravity, matter, and the structure of the universe. The JAMB cut off mark for Physics for the 2026/2027 academic session ranges from 140 to 220, depending on the university and programme competitiveness.
The field focuses on understanding how natural forces interact through mathematical analysis, laboratory experiments, and scientific observation. Students study mechanics, thermodynamics, optics, electronics, quantum physics, electromagnetism, and modern technological applications used in engineering, medicine, energy, computing, and space science.
Graduates develop advanced analytical, mathematical, and technical abilities that prepare them for careers as physicists, engineers, laboratory professionals, data analysts, and technology experts across sectors such as telecommunications, aviation, healthcare technology, manufacturing, education, scientific research, and energy production.

Requirements That Get Students Rejected
Your JAMB score is important, but it will not save you if you ignore the rules below.
O Level Requirements
You need at least five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and any other science subject like Biology or Further Mathematics. Physics is the core, but you cannot skip Chemistry or Mathematics.
These credits must come from no more than two exam sittings. WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB results are accepted.
UTME Subject Combination
You must register for English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Do not register for Biology, Economics, or Government. That combination will get your application rejected immediately.
Where Can Physics Take You?
Physics opens doors to careers in research, technology, finance, education, and data science.
1. Research Physicist
Working in universities or government labs, asking fundamental questions about matter, energy, space, and time. Pushing the boundaries of human knowledge.
