Modern medicine, industrial manufacturing, food production, energy systems, and countless scientific innovations all rely heavily on Chemistry. For the 2026/2027 academic session, the JAMB cut off mark for Chemistry ranges from 140 to 220, depending on the university and the competitiveness of the programme.
Chemistry studies the structure, composition, behaviour, and transformation of matter through laboratory investigations, scientific experimentation, and applied research.
Students explore organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry alongside industrial and biochemical applications used in healthcare, agriculture, petroleum production, manufacturing, and environmental management.
Beyond theoretical knowledge, students develop strong laboratory and research skills that prepare them for careers in pharmaceutical companies, oil and gas firms, food industries, research institutes, manufacturing companies, and environmental agencies as chemists, laboratory scientists, quality control officers, and research analysts.
Below are the Nigerian universities offering Chemistry, together with their JAMB cut off marks, admission requirements, subject combinations, and career opportunities for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Requirements That Get Students Rejected
Your JAMB score is important, but it will not save you if you ignore the rules below.
O Level Requirements
You need at least five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and any other science subject like Biology. These credits must come from no more than two exam sittings. WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB results are accepted.
UTME Subject Combination
You must register for English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.
Do not register for Biology in place of Physics or Mathematics. That combination will get your application rejected.
Careers in Chemistry
Chemistry opens doors to careers in pharmaceuticals, industry, research, education, and forensics.
1. Analytical Chemist
Measuring the chemical composition of substances. Testing water for pollution, checking food for contaminants, and verifying drug purity.
2. Pharmaceutical Chemist
Developing new medicines. Synthesising compounds, testing their effectiveness, and figuring out how to manufacture them at scale.
3. Industrial Chemist
Working in factories that produce chemicals. Fertilisers, plastics, paints, detergents, cosmetics. Improving processes and ensuring quality.
4. Research Chemist
Working in universities or corporate labs, discovering new molecules, reactions, and materials.
5. Forensic Chemist
Analysing evidence from crime scenes. Drugs, poisons, explosives, trace evidence. Testifying in court as an expert witness.
6. Quality Control Chemist
Ensuring that products meet specifications. Testing raw materials, monitoring production, and certifying finished goods.
7. Chemical Safety Officer
Ensuring that laboratories and factories handle chemicals safely. Developing safety protocols, training workers, responding to spills.
8. High School Chemistry Teacher
Schools need chemistry teachers who actually understand the subject. A stable career with real impact.
9. Environmental Chemist
Studying chemicals in the environment. Tracking pollutants, understanding their effects, and developing cleanup methods.
10. Academic
Teaching Chemistry at a university and conducting research. Training the next generation of chemists.
