The WAEC Syllabus for Technical Drawing serves as the definitive guide for candidates striving to excel in this specialised subject. It effectively bridges theoretical concepts with practical application, encompassing important areas such as plane and solid geometry, vector mechanics, and specialised drawing techniques for both building and mechanical disciplines.

The syllabus cultivates essential skills including spatial awareness, precision, and graphical communication. These competencies are highly sought after in engineering, architecture, and design professions.

For school and private candidates alike, thorough mastery of this syllabus forms the bedrock of examination success. Beyond the test hall, it imparts lasting technical skills that extend far into professional life.

Examination Structure 2026

The WAEC Technical Drawing examination consists of three distinct papers designed to assess both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Paper 1 (Objective) is a multiple choice section divided into two parts. Section A contains 30 questions covering general principles of plane and solid geometry, while Section B offers 10 questions from which candidates select based on their specialisation: either Building Drawing or Mechanical Drawing. This paper lasts 1 hour and carries 40 marks.

Paper 2 (Essay) comprises five descriptive questions focusing on plane, solid, and vector geometry. Candidates are required to answer any three questions.

This section evaluates the ability to explain and apply geometrical concepts with clarity and accuracy. It has a duration of 1 hour and 45 minutes and is worth 60 marks.

Paper 3 (Practical) is the hands on component of the examination. It is divided into two sections: Section A contains three sketching questions, one of which is compulsory.

Section B offers a choice between Building Drawing and Mechanical Drawing tasks, from which candidates must answer two questions relevant to their chosen area. This paper tests the practical application of drawing techniques and lasts 2 hours and 45 minutes, carrying a total of 100 marks.
