President Bola Tinubu has appointed Prof Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council, alongside a series of appointments across other key education agencies, the presidency announced on Wednesday.

The appointments were confirmed in a statement by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who described them as part of deliberate efforts to strengthen institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education.

Adelabu, a retired Professor of Educational Administration at Obafemi Awolowo University, brings considerable experience to the role. She previously served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State between 2013 and 2014 and chaired the National Board for Technical Education between 2018 and 2021. The incumbent Registrar, Prof Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, has been retained in his position.

In the technical education sector, Prof Babatunde Salako, a globally respected researcher with decades of experience in higher education, institutional governance, and national policy leadership, was named Chairman of the National Board for Technical Education. President Tinubu had, on 10 April, reappointed Prof Idris Bugaje as Executive Secretary of the NBTE for a second and final term of five years.

For the polytechnic sector, Dr Bongfa Binfa was appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N'yak Shendam, Plateau State, for a single term of five years. Binfa, who holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, succeeds pioneer rector Dr Mukaila Zakari Yau, whose tenure ended on 16 March 2026. Before his appointment, Binfa served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and previously lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.

President Tinubu also renewed the tenure of Prof Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final term of five years. First appointed on 2 September 2021, Anunobi has championed several institutional reforms, including the development of the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library. Her renewed tenure is expected to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms and the completion of the National Library headquarters project in Abuja.
